To prevent the formation of a clot.

| What are anticoagulants used for? | MI, Prevent thrombus, and AFIB. |
| Oral anticoagulant | Coumadin and Warfarin. |
| IV anticoagulant | Heparin |
| SQ anticoagulant | Lovenox- Given after surgery. |
| Antiplatlet | Prevents thrombus in arteries. |
| Antiplatlet Meds | Aspirin and Plavix. |
| Thrombolytic | Dissolves clots and re-opens vessel. |
| Adverse Reactions of anticoagulants | BLEEDING- INTERNAL/EXTERNAL. N/V, Abd. cramping, diarrhea NO NSAIDS/Asprin NO Thrombolytic w/ Active bleeding |
