| legend | a story from the past that might be believed by some people but cannot be proven to be true (often exaggerated events) |
| apostrophe | a symbol ' that shows a letter is missing (can’t) or that something belongs to somebody (Joe’s) |
| punctuation | the marks used in writing to make the meaning more clear or to separate sentences |
| quotation | the marks used to show exactly what somebody said “ ” |
| diagram | a drawing that shows how something works or the parts of something |
| beginning/ middle/ end | the parts of a story |
| possessive | when a word shows that something belongs to somebody (usually made by adding ‘s) |
| vowel | the letters a, e, i, o, u, and sometimes y |
| persuade | to convince somebody to agree |
| follow directions | taking the steps that are written or spoken to do something |
