Mr. Hoeve's Academic Vocabulary 12

TermDefinition
introduction the beginning of a piece of writing that usually gives an idea of what will come later in the text
bibliography a list of where an author found information for the writing
nonfiction true or real
word a sound or sounds that have a meaning when spoken or written
interrogate to ask questions in order to figure out what is happening
verb tense the way a verb is written to show when something happened e.g. in the past, present, or future
focus main idea or most important part
picture book a book that is all or mostly pictures
fiction not true or not real
long vowel a vowel sound that makes the same sound as the vowel’s name
