prefix a letter or group of letters added to the beginning of a word to change its meaning
reread to read something again
heading like a title at the top of a piece of writing
period a dot used to mark the end of a sentence that is a statement
poem like songs without music
compare how things are the same
skim to quickly look over a piece of writing to find out what it is about - to read parts of something
action verb a word that tells what a subject is doing
contrast how things are different
language a system of words and signs that are used to communicate thoughts and feelings
