Development When a country is improving
Economic Development Progress in economic growth e.g how wealthy a country is and its level of employment and use of technology
Social Development Improvement in people's standard of living e.g better health care and access to clean water
Environmental development advancement in the management and protection of the environment e.g. reducing pollution and increasing recyling
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is the total value of goods and services produced by a country in a year. It is a measure of wealth and gets higher as the country develops
Economic development indicators assess the economic development of a country
GDP Per Capita The GDP of a country is divided by the population to give a number per head, It is a measure of wealth and gets higher as a country develops
Economic growth measures the annual increase in GDP, GNP, GDP per capita, or GNP per capita
Gross National Income (GNI) The total value of goods and services produced by a country in a year. It is a measure of wealth and gets higher as the country develops
GNI per Capita The GNI divided by the number of people in the country (population). It is a measure of wealth and increases as the the country develops
Birth rate The number of live babies born each year per thousand of the population. It is a measure of women's rights and get lower as the country develops
Death rate The number of deaths each year per thousand of the population. It is a measure of health and gets lower as the country develops
Life expectancy The average age a person can be expected to live to. it is a measure of wealth and gets higher as the country develops
Infant mortality rate The number of babies who die under 1 year old per thousand of the population. It is a measure health and gets lower as the country develops
Literacy rate the percentage of adults who can read and write. It is a measure of education and gets higher as the country develops
Human Development Index (HDI) The number that's calculated using life expectancy, education level and income per head. Every country has a HDI value between 0 (least developed) and 1 (most developed)
Happy Index This is calculated by dividing a country's life expectancy, well being and level of equality by its environmental impact. countries are graded green (good) or red (bad)
