| Classical conditioning | Associate learning that enables organisms to anticipate events. OR learning to link stimuli together |
| Stimulus | Environmental condition that evokes natural reflexive unconscious response. Ex: puff of air |
| Reflex | Simple automatic response either physical or mental. Ex: flinching |
| Ivan Pavlov | Discovered that reflexes can also be learned through association. Ex: dogs and salivating |
| Generalization | Tendency for a conditioned response to be evoked by stimuli SIMILAR to what was conditioned |
| Counterconditioning | Pleasant stimulus repeatedly paired with a fear evoking one to get rid of the fear |
| Exposure therapy | Exposing individuals to fear until it is gone |
| Flooding | Client is exposed to fear all at once and it’s unpleasant but it works |
