| Learning | Relatively permanent change in behavior that arises from practice or experience |
| Operant conditioning | Learning to consciously operate in your environment. How behavior is affected by consequences |
| Reinforcer | Any stimulus which INCREASES probability is the response happening again in the future |
| Positive reinforcer | Added to increase behavior |
| Negative reinforcer | Removed to increase behavior |
| Child receives a toy when well behaved | Positive reinforcer |
| Child does not have to clean room for behavior | Negative reinforcer |
| Punishers | Anything that decreases probability of a response happening again in the future |
| Positive punishment | Added to decrease , imposing something unpleasant |
| Negative punishment | Taken away to decrease behavior, taking pleasant thing away |
| Learned helplessness | Individual believes unpleasant stimuli are inevitable so they give up |
| Extinction burst | Sudden increase in frequency of behavior just before it stops |
