Atom Smallest particle that makes up matter
Nucleus The core and center of an atom
Protons Positively charged particles found tightly packed in the nucleus
Neutrons Particles that have a neutral charge
Electrons Particles that have a negative charge
Atomic Mass The sum of the protons and neutrons
Isotopes Elements that have the same number of protons but different number of neutrons
Valence Electrons The electrons that are on the last energy level of an electron cloud
Ion An atom with a charge
