QuestionAnswer
Amplitude the measure of wave energy; the maximum height of a wave
Wavelength the distance between two identical points on a wave; crest to crest, trough to trough
Frequency number of waves produced in a given amount of time; rate
Hertz (Hz) unit of measurement for frequency. one Hertz = one wave per second
Pitch the highness or lowness of a sound
Medium a substance that makes possible the transfer of energy from one location to another
Crest the highest point of a wave
Trough the lowest point of a wave
Doppler Effect change in frequency and wavelength of a wave. It is caused by the change in distance between the thing creating the wave and whatever is observer the wave.
Reverberation how sounds bounce how of things
Echo a sound caused by the reflection of sound waves from a surface back to the listener
Transmission the moving of electromagnetic waves through a material
Diffraction when waves spread out after they pass through small openings, or bending of waves around a barrier
Refraction the bending of a wave as it moves from one medium to another
Reflection when a wave strikes an object or surface and bounces off
Absorption the transfer of light energy to matter
Scattering when light waves pass through an imperfect medium
Opaque material that allows no light to pass through
Translucent material the transmit some light, but also scatters some light in different directions
Transparent materail that permits light to pass through without retractions
