ESSAY. Plants adapt by b-ing tall & big. The Great Plains' grass is tall so it can survive the harsh winters in the mid w. There r conif. woods in contin. areas cuz they can survive in cold winters. Plants that live in dry areas are small & take up little space
Orbit The path followed by an object in space
Revolution One complete orbit of the earth around the sun
Axis An imaginary line around which a planet turns
Rotation The spinning motion of the earth
Low latitudes Between tropic of cancer and tropic of capricorn
MIddle Latitudes Between tropic of cancer, Arctic Circle, Antarctic Circle, and tropic of capricorn.
High Latitudes Between arctic circle, north pole, antarctic circle and south pole
Landform An area of earths surface with a definite shape
Mountain A landform that rises above 2,000 ft above sea level
Hill A landform that rises above surrounding land with a rounded top
Plateau A large flat area that rises above surrounding land
Plain Large area of flat, gently rolling land
Plate Tectonics Theory that earth's crust is made of huge slabs of plates
Plate Huge section of earth's crust
Weathering The breaking down of rocks by wind, ice and rain
Erosion Process by which water, wind, or ice wears away landforms, and carries it to another place
Atmosphere Multilayered band of gases that surrounds the earth
Weather Bottom layer of the earth's atmosphere
Temperature Degree of hotness or coldness of something such as water or air
Precipitation All forms of water that fall from the atmosphere
Climate Weather patterns that an area typically experiences
