Win-Lose Always wanting to win at all costs. Where you gain another person loses
Lose-Win You have a permanent victim mentality. You always do what someone else wants
Lose-Lose If you lose everyone else does too. Also known as a "negative Nancy"
Win-Win Wanting both sides to win together or not all together. Not one person is above the other.
What is an EBA? EBA stands for Emotional Bank Account.
What are forms of deposits into EBA accounts? 1. Do small acts of kindness 2. Keep promises 3. Keep confidences 4. Be loyal to the absent 5. Set clear expectations 6. Apologize 7. Forgive
What is a small act of kindness? Example: holding the door for someone as they walk inside a restaurant
What does it mean to keep promises? Example: If you say you will help someone with homework make sure to do it. Don't cancel on them.
What does it mean to keep confidences? Example: If someone tells you something private do not go and repeat it to someone else.
What does it mean to be loyal to the absent? Example: Do not gossip about someone just because they are not around to defend themselves.
How can you set clear expectations? Example: In a group project assign a task to everyone and make sure they understand what their expectations on the assignment are.
What does it mean to apologize? Example: Apologize to someone if you know you did something wrong (gossiped about them, ignored them).
What does it mean to forgive? Example: Forgiving someone for talking about you when they were mad.
What are 2 Rules for making deposits in an EBA account? 1. A deposit is only a deposit if the other person sees it as a deposit 2. It can take one or more deposits to make up for one withdrawal
What is the main point on making deposits? The key to making friends is to deposit acts of kindness and helpfulness into their Emotional Bank Accounts and to avoid making withdrawals.
What does it mean to make a withdrawal from an EBA account? This means you have not complied with one of the seven concepts that define a positive deposit.
