Autonomy Vs. Shame and Doubt 18 mo-3 y; task for a sense of independence over ones own body with caregiver. Child will gain confidence & pride for Ego strengths. If prohibited they are likely to feel doubtful of their own abilities and excessive shame.
Concrete Operational Stage 7 to 11 years children are capable of performing mental operations using logic and abstract thinking. This allows children to classify & problem-solve in more sophisticated ways.
Ego Integrity vs. Despair 65 y-death; One look back on life & feel a sense of fulfillment & accomplishment. Wisdom allows one to face the end of life and accept success and failure. If one sees life as unproductive or with many regrets develop a sense of despair & depression.
Formal Operational Stage 11+years adolescent able to think abstractly, hypothetically, and relativistic way. adolescents can develop competing hypotheses about a problem & strategies for return to ego-centrism during this stage.
Generativity vs. Stagnation 40-65 y; One starts to participate in activities that give a sense of purpose (career, family, creating positive change in others). If adult does not feel a sense of purpose, one may feel little connections and sense of uselessness or rejection.
Identity Vs. Role Confusion 12-18 y; Adolescent learn roles they will occupy as an adult while developing a sense of personal identity. Comfortable with others to develop ones own values. Failure results in development lead to role confusion or weak sense of self.
Industry vs. Inferiority 6-12 y; task to develop a sense of competence with school & do things on their own to instill a sense of pride & confidence. Peer groups become more important. Not support child develop doubts in abilities and have a sense of inferiority.
Initiative vs. Guilt 3-6 y; stage to set goals & carry out plans w/o infringing on rights of others. Exerting too much control results in disapproval from adults & feelings of guilt. Feelings of guilt stop child from making plans in the future.
Intimacy vs. Isolation 18-40 y; Task where one begins forming intimate relationships w/ other people. One becomes comfortable relationships & sense of commitment & care. Failure leads to isolation, loneliness, & feeling excluded.
Preoperational Stage 2 to 7 years of symbolic functions, which allows the child to learn through use of mental images, language and other symbols that represent objects that are not present. Children engage in symbolic play and problem solving.
Sensorimotor Stage birth to 2 years where children learn primarily through sensory input and action with recognize objects, recognize certain events, understand language.
Trust vs. Mistrust 0-18 mo; task to achieve balance between trust and mistrust. Basic trust in relationship with infant and caregiver to form the foundation of all stages. Failure to master result in pervasive mistrust or dependent rigid of others.
Autistic Stage birth to 1 mo; infant is focused purely on self; unresponsive to external stimuli
Symbiotic stage 1 to 5 mo; infant perceive the "need-satisfying object." At this stage, mothers ego functions for infant begins to know mother is separate being.
Separation-Individuation stage 5 to 24 mo; infant begins to develop understanding of boundaries of self and start to see mother as separate individual.
Differentiation Substage 5 to 9 mo; infant's attention shifts from inwardly focused to outwardly focused (i.e., crawling).
Practicing Substage 9 to 14 mo; infant continues to separate from caretaker to develop autonomous ego functions (i.e., walking, playing).
Rapprochement Substage 14 to 24 mo; infant beings to want to act independently. Moves away from caregiver but regularly comes back to ensure she is still there.
Object constancy Substage after 24 mo; infant internalizes caretaker & begins to understand that caretaker still exists despite their absence.
Oral Stage Freud's birth to 1 year stage where an infants primary interaction with the world is through the mouth. Mouth is vital for eating and infant derives pleasure from oral stimulation (i.e., sucking and tasting).
Anal Stage Freud's 1-3 years; primary focus on libido on controlling bladder & bowel movements. Toilet training is a primary issue w. children & parents. Too much pressure result in excessive need for order & cleanliness; too little lead to messy & destructive bx
Phallic Stage Freud's 3-6 years the primary focus on ID's energy on genitals. child become aware of their gender identity.
Latent Stage Freud's 6-puberty where sexual feelings are dormant. Children develop social skills, values and relationships with peers and adults outside of the family.
Genital Stage Freud's Puberty to adult; puberty causes the libido to become active once again. People develop a strong interest in opposite sex. If development successful the individual will continue to develop well-balanced person.
