| bias | a prejudice toward one point of view |
| text structure | the way an author chooses to present information |
| sequence | order of events - first,next, last |
| contrast | to tell how two or more texts are different |
| compare | to tell how two or more texts are alike |
| problem and solution | a text structure in which an obstacle or a challenge must be overcome or a problem must be solved |
| cause and effect | a text structure that gives reasons and outcomes for events |
| inference | an educated guess based on evidence in the text and a reader's prior knowledge |
| chronological | a text structure in which events are taking place in a timely order |
| main idea | the most important idea in a text |
