matter

TermDefinition
mass Amount of matter in a substance or object.
matter Anything that has mass and volume.
volume Amount of space taken up by matter.
atom Smallest unit of a chemical element.
chemical compound Substance in which the atoms of two or more elements are bound together.
electron Tiny negatively charged particles that orbit the nucleus.
ion Atom with one or more electrons added or subtracted; it has an electrical charge.
matter Substance that physical objects are made of.
molecule Smallest unit of a compound; it is made of atoms.
neutron Neutral particle in the nucleus of an atom.
nucleus Center of an atom, made of protons and neutrons.
proton Positively charged particle in a nucleus.
