| penny | a coin with a value of one cent |
| greater than (more than) | bigger than |
| regroup | making groups of tens when adding or subtracting 2 digit numbers |
| left | A dirction that is the exactly the other way from right |
| half | one of two equal parts in a whole |
| decimal point | "a dot that comes after the “ones place” to show where the fraction (tenths, hundredths etc.) begins" |
| more | a bigger number or amount |
| quarter | a coin that is worth 25 cents OR ¼ piece of a whole |
| number | a count or measurement used to tell how many |
| round / rounding | making a number easier to work with by changing one or more of the last digits to the closest zero ending (e.g. 32 -> 30 or 897-> 900) |
| unknown | the answer you are looking for in a math problem |
| line segment | The part of a line that connects two points |
| numerator | the top number in a fraction |
| pyramid | a 3-dimensioonal object that has a base made of straight sides and the sides are all triangles that meet at the top |
| volume | the amount of space that a 3 dimensional object occupies |
| year | 365 days |
| gram | a unit of mass (like weight) that is about as heavy as a paper clip |
| equal / equivalent | exactly the same amount or value |
| first | before anything else when putting things in number order |
| face | any surface of a solid (3D) object |
| double | to make twice as much (add a number to itself) |
| on | touching the top of something |
| after | at a later time or behind |
| ones | an amount that is less than 10 |
| explain | to tell why each step was used to solve a problem |
| lines of symmetry | the line that divides a shape into the two sides that are a reflection of each other |

| list | An organized record of items made to answer a question |
| quadrilateral (4 sides) | a flat closed shape with 4 sides (same as a quadrangle) |
| probability | the chance that something will happen |
| line graph | a chart that shows information by using lines to connect the points that show what was observed (or found out) |
| distance | a measure of how far something is |
| likely | the chance is big |
| edge | a line segment that joins two corners |
| graph | a drawing that shows a relationship between the 2 or more things |
| polygon | a flat shape that is closed and has straight sides |
| time | "the ongoing sequence of events taking place – past, present, future" |

| part | a piece of a whole |

| fraction | a part of a whole |
| array | items arranged in rows and columns |

| right angle | an angle that is exactly 90° (° means degrees) |
| obtuse angle | an angle that is more than 90° |
| remainder | the amount left over after dividing |
| parallelograms | a shape with 4 sides where the opposite sides are parallel |

| equation | a number sentence that says two things are equal |
| cylinder | a solid object with two identical flat ends that are circular or elliptical and and one curved side |
| numerator | the top number in a fraction |
| ruler | a tool used to measure distances up to 12 inches. |
| factor / product / multiplication | a numbers that can be multiplied to get another number |
| angle | how much turn there is between two lines |

| multiples | the answer when a number is multiplied by another whole number |
| dividend | the amount that you want to divide up |
| rectangle | a four sided shape that has all 90º angles and opposite sides are parallel and equal length |
| symmetry or symmetrical | when the one side of a shape is exactly like the other side when flipped over a line |
| frequency table | a chart that shows how many times something happened |
| multiplication | adding groups of numbers or addition that is repeated |
| vertex / vertices | a corner or a point where two or more straight lines meet |
| tens | the place value that shows how many groups of ten |
| Subtract /subtraction /take away/difference | to make smaller by removing numbers or objects |
| measure / measurement | a number that shows the size or amount of something |
| circle | a perfectly round shape |
| money | a thing like bills or coins used to pay for things |
| quadrangle (4 angles) | a flat closed shape with 4 sides (same as a quadrilateral) |
| inch | a measurement that is about as long as a paper clip |
| bar graph | a graph that uses rectangle bars to show how large a value is |
| difference | the answer to a subtraction problem |
| before | at an earlier time or place |
| centimeter | a length of measure that is 1/100 of a meter (about as long as a staple) |
| inverse (opposite) | doing the opposite math opperation |
| area | the space on the inside of a shape |
| tomorrow | the day after today |
| similar | objects that have the same shape but may be different in size |
| digit | the symbols that are used to show numbers |
| plus | putting numbers or things together to make larger numbers |
| circumference | the length of a line that goes all the way around a circle |
| nickel | a coin that has a value of 5 cents |

| above | in a higher place |
| chance | the possibility of a thing happening |
| length | how far it is from one end of something to the other end |
| foot | "12 inches, or as long as most rulers, or as long as one of the squares tiles on the floor of school" |

| acute angle | an angle that is less than 90° |

| associative property | a rule that says that it does not matter how things are grouped when we add or multiply |
| tallies | marks used in counting to where lines drawn in groups of five |
| cone | a 3D shape that has a round base and goes to a point |
| pound | a measure of weight that is 16 ounces or about the weight of a baseball |
| number line | a line with numbers placed in order to help solve math problems |
| yesterday | the day before today |
| sort | to arrange or group in a special way (usually by some feature) |
| third | the place that comes after second when going in order. |
| time interval | an exact block of time |
| parallel lines | lines that are always the same distance apart and never touch |
| quarter hour | 15 minutes (or ¼ of a full turn by the minute hand) |
| hour | 60 minutes |
| factor | each number that is multiplied |
| cube | a box shaped solid object that has six faces that are the same |

| commutative property | rule that says you can change the order in + and x |
| product / factor / multiplication | the answer to a multiplication problem / the numbers used to multiply in a multiplication problem / addition that is repeated a number of times |

| fourth | the place after 3 when putting things in number order |
| count | numbers put in an order (usually getting larger) |

| coordinates | a set of values that show where an exact point is |

| perimeter | the distance around the outside of a two-dimensional shape |

| numeral | a symbol that stands for a number |
| horizontal / vertical | across (or side to side) --- / up and down | |
| sphere | an object that has the same shape as a ball |

| intersecting lines | lines that cross |
| even number | a whole number that can be divided by 2 |

| square | a four sided shape where all of the sides have the same length and all of the angle are 90º |
| compare | "to look at numbers to see if they are bigger, smaller, or equal" |
| vertical / horizontal | up and down | / across (or side to side) --- |

| pattern | things are arranged according to a rule or rules |
| skip count | counting by more than one number at a time |
| pictograph | a graph that uses pictures or symbols to show the value of data |

| weight | the amount of he downward force caused by gravity on an object (how heavy something is) |
