Psych Research Pt 9
Time Series & Single Subject Designs
Question | Answer |
---|---|
Time-Series Design | a quasi-experiment in which the performance of one group of subjects is measured both before and after an experimental treatment |
Single Group, Pre-test, Post-test Design | one group of subjects tested only once before and after treatment |
Interrupted Time-Series Design | one group of subjects tested more than once before and after treatment |
Non-Equivalent Before-After Design | two non-randomly assigned groups of subjects and DV is pretest minus posttest |
Ex Post Facto Design | a research design in which the researcher uses archival data to study an event that occurred in the past |
Reversal Design | subject's behavior is recorded prior to treatment, then treatment, behavior measured again, treatment withdrawn to see if behavior reverses back to pre-treatment levels, then treatment reintroduced (1 treatment for 1 behavior) |
Multielement Design | several treatments for one behavior |
Multiple Baseline Design | several different behaviors are recorded w/ one treatment for each |
Problems w/ All Single Subject Experimental Designs | likely chance of both type I and type II errors, placebo effects, experimenter bias, generalization difficulties |
