Time Series & Single Subject Designs

QuestionAnswer
Time-Series Design a quasi-experiment in which the performance of one group of subjects is measured both before and after an experimental treatment
Single Group, Pre-test, Post-test Design one group of subjects tested only once before and after treatment
Interrupted Time-Series Design one group of subjects tested more than once before and after treatment
Non-Equivalent Before-After Design two non-randomly assigned groups of subjects and DV is pretest minus posttest
Ex Post Facto Design a research design in which the researcher uses archival data to study an event that occurred in the past
Reversal Design subject's behavior is recorded prior to treatment, then treatment, behavior measured again, treatment withdrawn to see if behavior reverses back to pre-treatment levels, then treatment reintroduced (1 treatment for 1 behavior)
Multielement Design several treatments for one behavior
Multiple Baseline Design several different behaviors are recorded w/ one treatment for each
Problems w/ All Single Subject Experimental Designs likely chance of both type I and type II errors, placebo effects, experimenter bias, generalization difficulties
