| iconic | relating to someone or something famous that symbolizes something important |

| commendation | an official statement praising someone |
| fortified | protected against attacks |
| maneuver | a large scale training exercise |
| Allies | the countries that opposed the Axis powers |
| valor | great bravery in the face of danger |
| defacto | accepted or agreed to be so, but not officially so |
| home front | the efforts in a country to support its soldiers |
| simulate | to imitate, often for training purposes |
| rations | fixed amounts of food given to each soldier |
| Axis | the countries that opposed the Allies |
| casualty | a person killed or wounded in a war or act of violence |
