chemical reaction A change in which atoms of one or more substances are changed to form new substances
reactants substances that react, on left side
products new substances produced, on right side
chemical equation way to describe a chemical reaction using formulas and symbols
law of conservation of mass amount of reactants equals the amount of products
coefficients numbers in front of a chemical formula, give the number of molecules (or atoms) involved in the reaction
subscripts small numbers after an element, gives the number of atoms in the compound
yields shown by an arrow, indicates what will be made
