Physical Science Chapter 1 Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Observation Information that you obtain through your senses.
Precision A gauge of how exact a measurement is.
Independent (Manipulated) Variable The variable that is changed in an experiment.
Technology The use of knowledge to solve practical problems.
Scientific Models Makes it easier to understand things that might be too difficult to observe directly.
Scientific Law Summarizes a pattern found in nature
Accuracy The closeness of a measurement to the actual value being measured.
Variable Any factor that can change
Qualitative Means descriptive
Scientific Method An organized plan for gathering, organizing, and communicating information
Length A straight line distance between two points
Hypothesis A proposed answer to a question. It is an "if, then" statement.
Scientific Theory A well tested explanation for a set of observations or experimental results.
Dependent Variable The variable that can be measured.
Temperature How hot an object is.
Science A system of knowledge and the methods you use to find that knowledge.
Mass The quantity of matter in an object.
Quantitative Means numerical.
