Physical Science Chapter 1 Vocabulary

| Observation | Information that you obtain through your senses. |
| Precision | A gauge of how exact a measurement is. |
| Independent (Manipulated) Variable | The variable that is changed in an experiment. |
| Technology | The use of knowledge to solve practical problems. |
| Scientific Models | Makes it easier to understand things that might be too difficult to observe directly. |
| Scientific Law | Summarizes a pattern found in nature |
| Accuracy | The closeness of a measurement to the actual value being measured. |
| Variable | Any factor that can change |
| Qualitative | Means descriptive |
| Scientific Method | An organized plan for gathering, organizing, and communicating information |
| Length | A straight line distance between two points |
| Hypothesis | A proposed answer to a question. It is an "if, then" statement. |
| Scientific Theory | A well tested explanation for a set of observations or experimental results. |
| Dependent Variable | The variable that can be measured. |
| Temperature | How hot an object is. |
| Science | A system of knowledge and the methods you use to find that knowledge. |
| Mass | The quantity of matter in an object. |
| Quantitative | Means numerical. |
