node | a point where a wave crosses its resting line |
pulse | s single disturbance |
transverse wave | a wave where the disturbance is perpendicular to the direction of the wave |
trough | the lowest point of a wave below the resting line |
wave | a continuous disturbance that transfers energy but not matter |
wavelength | the distance traveled by one complete wave cycle |

rarefaction | the parts of a longitudinal wave where the medium is spread apart |
compression | the parts of a longitudinal wave where the medium is closer together |
