Radiology Quality Management

TypeRequirements
X-ray Collimator/PBL Must be accurate within 2% of SID.
X-ray kVp selector Must be accurate within 10%. ±3-5 kVp.
Uncontrolled Area Must be kept under 20 μSv/week.
Secondary Barriers 2ndary must overlap the 1st by 1/2 inch and touch the ceiling.
Device used for quality control testing Digital dosimeter - several tests can be done with one device.
Fluoro dose table-top Must be limited to no more than 100 mGy/min
X-ray mAs adjacent stations/Linearity Must be accurate within 10% of each other.
Fluoro image intensified Primary beam must never go beyond the limits of the IR.
X-ray tube leakage Must not exceed 1 mGy/hr @ a distance of 1 m from the housing.
X-ray bean perpendicularity Must be accurate within 1 degree..
X-ray kVp linearity Must be accurate within 10%.
X-ray tube speed Generally most operate @ 3,000 & 10,000 rpm.
Lead apron Must contain at least .25 mm Pb.
Thyroid Shield Must contain at least .5 mm Pb.
Controlled Area Must be kept under 1 mSv/week.
Fluoro Curtain Must contain .25 mm Pb
Fluoro Bucky Slot Shield Must contain .25 mm Pb
X-ray Timer Should be within 5% of the time chosen for exposures over 10ms
Exposure reproducibility Radiation intensity of sequential exposures should not vary more than 5%
Fluoro exposure rate A digital dosimeter, dose should not be more than 100 mGy/min.
Fluoro total brightness gain Ranges from 5,000-20,000
