Scientific Method

TermDefinition
technology the practical use of scientific information to improve the quality of human life
physical science the study of matter and energy
model a symbolic representation of an idea, system or structure to make something understandable
observation using your senses to gather information
hypothesis a testable prediction used to see how something works or to solve a problem
theory the most logical explanation of way things work the way they do
A theory former hypothesis that has been tested with repeated experiments and observations and found to always work
scientific law a rule that describes, but doesn’t explain
A scientific law a pattern in nature and predicts what will happen under specific conditions
experiment an organized procedure for testing a hypothesis
control a standard for comparison in an experiment
constant a factor that does not change in an experiment
independent variable a factor that is changed by the experimenter
dependent variable the factor that changes because of the independent variable
