SCIENCE 8 Test 1

Forces, Gravity, Friction

QuestionAnswerexamples
Inference A prediction of what you think is going to happen when its cloudy outside, you make the inference that it is going to rain
Force push or pull that gives energy to an object
Gravity Force of attraction that depends on the mass of two objects and the distance between them
Friction force that acts in opposite direction of motion will cause a object to slow down and finally stop
Lubricant reduces friction. putting liquid soap on your hands reduces the friction.
Newtons First Law law of inertia a body at rest and a body in motion until acted upon by force Throwing a softball is going to slow down and stop
Newtons Second Law Force equals mass times and acceleration When you run in a race your mass would slow you down
Newtons Third Law for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction Shooting a gun and the bullet flies out and the gun recoils in your hand
Momentum mass of an object times its velocity; determines how difficult it is to stop the objects motion. A snowball going down the hill
rolling friction the friction produced by objects such as wheels or ball bearings is called rolling friction roller skates
Fluid friction substances called lubricants, which are "slippery" substances such as grease, change sliding friction to fluid friction, thus reducing friction rubbing your hand together without soap, them putting soap on your hand.
sliding friction when solid objects slide over each other. opening or closing a sliding glass balcony door
Unbalanced forces forces that produce a nonzero net force, which changes an objects motion. it is an unequal See saw
Balenced forces equal forces acting on an object in opposite directions Station arm position
Qualitative Observation using words He looks so tired
Quantitative Observation using numbers He put his head down 4 times
Observation using all of your senses watching a reaction in lab

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
