SS Map Skills Review

What is a compass rose? It shows the cardinal (north, south, east, west) and intermediate (northeast, northwest, southeast, southwest) directions on a map.
What is a map? A flat representation of an area of land or water showing distances between objects, borders, landforms, countries, or other information about the area.
What is a globe? A round model of the earth.
What is the prime meridian? The line of longitude which separates the eastern and western hemispheres of the earth and measures 0 degrees.
What is the equator? The line of latitude which separates the north and south hemispheres of the earth and measures 0 degrees.
What is a hemisphere? Half of the earth
What is a map grid? Lines crossed over a map which help to find objects on a map.
What is a map index? A list of the coordinates of locations to use a map grid.
What are the 4 hemispheres of the earth? North, South, East, West
What are the 7 continents? North America, South America, Antarctica, Australia, Africa, Asia, Europe
