Section 5: Scope
| Term | Definition |

| Scope | The totality of outputs, outcomes and benefits and the work required to produce them (this definition includes programmes within its scope - the outcomes and benefits do not normally form part of a project's scope). |
| Scope management | The process whereby outputs, outcomes and benefits are identified, defined and controlled. |
| PBS | Product breakdown structure. A hierarchy of deliverables that are required to be produced by the project. |
| Product breakdown structure | PBS. A hierarchy of deliverables that are required to be produced by the project. |
| WBS | Work breakdown structure. The hierarchical breakdown of work required to deliver the products of a project. |

| Change control | A process that ensures that all changes made to a project's baseline scope, cost, time or quality objectives are identified, evaluated, approved, rejected or deferred. |
| Configuration management | Technical and administrational activities concerned with the creation, maintenance and controlled change of configuration throughout the project life cycle. |
| Change management | The formal process through which all changes to the project plan are approved and introduced. |
| Configuration item | Part of a configuration that has a set function and is designated for configuration management. |
| Cost account | A cost account defines what work will be performed, who will perform it and who will pay for it. |
| Change freeze | A point on a project after which no further changes will be considered. |
