| Angina Pectoris | Spasm like pain in the chest caused by myocardial anoxia |
| Bronchodilator | Drug that relaxes contractions of the smooth muscle of the bronchioles to improve lung ventilation |
| Cirrhosis | Chronic , degenerative disease of the liver that interferes with normal liver function |
| Colloidal | Pertaining to a glue like substance |
| Enteric-Coated | Term that refers to an oral medication that is coated to protect the drug against the stomach juices: this design is used to ensure that the medicine is absorbed in the small intestine |
| Formulary | List of drugs compiled by a health insurance company that identifies the drugs the insurance company will cover under benefits |
| Generic | Medication that is not protected by a trademark |
| Hypercholesterolemia | Elevated blood levels of cholesterol |
| Lumen | An open space, such as within a blood vessel or the intestine, or the inside of a needle or an examining instrument |
| Metabolic Alkalosis | Condition characterized by significant loss of acid in the body or an increased amount of bicarbonate; Can lead to coma and death if severe |
| Over-The-Counter (OTC) Drugs | Medications sold without a prescription |
| Spermicide | Chemical substance that kills sperm cells |
| Therapeutic Range | The blood concentration of a drug that produces a desired effect without toxicity |
| Tinnitus | A noise sensation of ringing heard in one or both ears |
| Schedule l | No accepted medical use, never prescribed for use, high potential for abuse, possession of these drugs is illegal |
| Schedule ll | Accepted for medical use but with severe restrictions, high potential for abuse, may cause psychological or physical dependence. |
| Schedule lll | Accepted for medical use, may cause moderate to low physical dependence or high psychological dependence, includes combination drugs that contain limited amounts of narcotics or stimulants. |
| Schedule lV | Accepted for medical use, low potential for abuse, may cause limited physical or psychological dependence compared with schedule lll drugs, includes minor tranquilizers and hypnotics. |
| Schedule V | Accepted for medical use, low potential for abuse, may cause limited physical or psychological dependence compared with schedule lV drugs, includes drug mixtures containing limited amounts of narcotics. |
