typhoon a dangerous tropical storm with heavy rains and high winds, known as a hurricane in the Western Hemisphere
demilitarized zone (DMZ) a neutral area between enemy countries, specifically between North Korea and South Korea
steppe a very large plain of dry grassland
semiarid somewhat dry, with very little rainfall

animal-borne carried by animals
carapace the hard shell of an animal such as a turtle
