| climate | the average condition of the atmosphere of an area over a long period of time, including temperature, precipitation, and seasonal changes |
| weather | the condition of the atmosphere at a particular time, including temperature, precipitation, and humidity for a particular day or week |
| vegetation | plant life |
| hurricane | a strong storm with swirling winds and heavy rainfall |
| cyclone | a storm with rotating winds, called a typhoon in the Eastern Hemisphere; a hurricane in other parts of the world |
| tornado | a storm with powerful winds that follows an unpredictable path |
| raw material | unfinished or natural materials such as minerals, oil, or coal used to make finished products |
| nonrenewable resource | a source of energy that is limited and cannot be replaced, such as oil |
| renewable resource | a raw material or energy source that replaces itself over time |
| habitat | the natural environment of a living plant or animal |
| ecosystem | a community of living organisms and their natural environment, or habitat |
| marine life | the plants and animals living in the ocean |
