Geographer's Toolbox

spatial thinking a way of thinking about space on Earth's surface, including where places are located and why they are there
geographic pattern a similarity among places
Geographic Information System (GIS) computer-based devices that show data about specific locations
absolute location the exact point where a place is located, identified by latitude and longitude coordinates
Global Positioning System (GPS) a satellite system based in space that finds absolute location and time anywhere on Earth.
relative location the position of a place in relation to other places
region a group of places with common traits
continent a large landmass on Earth's surface; Earth has seven continents
terrace a flat surface that is built into a hillside
