Chapter 5 workbook Definitions word

TermsDefinitions
Absorption The incorporation of a chemical agent across natural barriers within the body.
Bioavailability The amount of drug that reaches its intended destination by being absorbed into the bloodsteam.
Bioequivalence The difference between a drug that is manufactured in a different dosage form or by a different company; includes the rate of absorption, distribution,metabolism,and excretion.
Distribution The ability of a drug to pass into the bloodstream.
Excretion The process of elimination of medicinal agents.
Half-life The amount of time required for a chemical to be decreased by one half.
Inhale To breathe in; directions used for an inhaler.
MDI Metered dose inhaler
OTC Over-the-counter medications that do not require a prescription.
Parenteral Medication introduced other than by way of the intestines.
Pharmacokinetics The life of the drug, which includes absorption, metabolism, distribution, and excretion.
Metabolism The process that breaks down drugs for excretion.
