Bupivacaine Amide-Type Local Anesthetic / Long duration infiltration anesthesia / More cardiotoxic than lidocaine
Ropivacaine Amide-Type Local Anesthetic / Long duration infiltration anesthesia / Less cardiotoxic than bupivacaine
Procaine Ester-Type Local Anesthetic / Slow onset and short duration infiltration anesthesia
Tetracaine Ester-Type Local Anesthetic / Slower metabolism/more systemic toxicity May be used for peripheral nerve blockade.
Cocaine Ester-Type Local Anesthetic / Blocks norepenephrine uptake / Used only in ears, nose, throat because vasoconstriction action decreases operative bleeding.
