rising action part of the plot in a story that includes the beginning, introduces characters, and the problem
falling action part of the plot in a story that usually includes the ending and the solution to the problem
contrast to show how something is different from another
communicate to share ones ideas
reason a verb: to give an explanation of something based on facts and not feelings or emotions
explicit something that is directly stated, often facts from a story
implicit something that is inferred, often someone's thoughts or feelings.
