| League of Nations | Intergovernmental organization founded as a result of the Paris peace conference that ended the first world war |
| Fourteen Points | A statement of principles for peace that was to be used for peace negotiations in order to end World War I |
| Open Door Policy | Principles initiated by the United States in 1899 and 1900 for the protection of equal privileges among countries trading with China and in support of Chinese territorial and administrative integrity |
| Arms Race | A competition between nations for superiority in the development in accumulation of weapons |
| Balance of Terror | The distribution of nuclear arms among nations such that no nation will initiate an attack for fear of retaliation |
