| Electromagnetic Spectrum | All energy waves that travel at the speed of light in a vacuum; includes radio, infrared, visible, ultraviolet, x-rays, and gamma rays. |
| Absorption | Happens when a solid material takes in light waves and changes it into thermal or heat energy. |
| Lens | A curved piece of clear glass or plastic that bends light |
| Prisms | A glass bar that separates white light into the color of the rainbow. |
| Opaque | Materials that do not let light pass through them. |
| Reflection | The bouncing back of light rays from a surface. |
| Refraction | The bending of light rays as they move from one material into another material. |
| Light | A form of energy that travels in waves and can move through empty space where there is no air. |
| Transparent | Materials that allow light to pass through them. |
| Translucent | A material that transmits some light and absorbs some light. |
| Concave lens | A lens that is thinner in the center and thicker at the edges, a shape that bends light outward. |
| Convex lens | A lens that is thicker in the center and thinner at the edges, a shape that bends light inward. |
