Life Science Unit 2 Word Wall Vocab

Cells (noun): tiny units that make up all living things
Organism (noun): a living thing
Metabolism (noun): the breaking down of food for energy
System (noun): parts working together for a specific purpose
Mechanical Digestion (noun): the physical process of breaking down food into smaller molecules
Chemical Digestion (noun): the chemical breakdown of food by enzymes and acids
Enzymes (noun): substances used to chemically breakdown food into smaller substances
Small Intestine (noun): an organ in the digestive system where food is broken down into the simplest molecules
Villi (noun): structures in the small intestine where nutrients are absorbed
Diffusion (noun): the movement of molecules from an area of greater concentration to lesser concentration
Osomosis (noun): the movement if water from an area of greater concentration to lesser concentration across a cell membrane
Cell Membrane (noun) :a semipermeable membrane surrounding the cytoplasm of a cell
Cytoplam (noun): the water-like material inside a cell
Plasma (noun): the clear portion of blood that carries nutrients and water
Pepsin (noun): an enzyme that is used to chemically breakdown protein
Stomach (noun): a digestive organ with an acidic environment where food is chemically and mechanically broken down
