vocabulary definitions only.

| Machine | A device that makes work easier. |
| Input Force | The work you DO on a machine. |
| Output Force | The work done BY the machine on an object. |
| Mechanical Efficiency | A comparison of a machine’s work output with the work input. |
| Mechanical Advantage | Number of times the machine multiplies the force. |
| First Class Lever | A lever with the fulcrum in the middle. |
| Second Class Lever | A lever with the load or resistance in the middle. |
| Third Class Lever | A lever with the input (effort) force in the middle. |
| Fulcrum | Fixed position on a lever. |
| Compound Machine | A machine made up of 2 or more simple machines. |
| Screw | An inclined plane wrapped around a post. |
| MA = 1 | Mechanical Advantage of a fixed pulley. |
| MA = 2 | Mechanical Advantage of a movable pulley. |
| Wheel and Axle | Inclined plane wrapped around a post. |
| Mechanical Advantage of a Wheel and Axle | MA = Radius of Wheel / Radius of Axle |
