Argument Vocabulary

Basic words needed to understand the argument unit.

TermDefinition
claim a statement of opinion the author wants to prove
evidence facts or statistics that supports the author's claim
reason statements that explain the author's evidence
counterclaim a claim that goes against the author's original claim
counterargument the argument the author makes that goes against the counterclaim
trace follow the argument
argument a point of view the author wants you to believe
evaluate judge the argument's credibility or validity
