List One of Drug Classifications for Mrs. Smiths Class

QuestionAnswer
Adrenergic Increases the rate and strength of the heart muscle. Acts as a vasoconstrictor, dilates bronchi, dilates pupils and relaxes muscular walls
Analgesic Relieves pain without loss of consciousness. Narcotic or non-narcotic. Acts on the brain to cause pain relief and drowsiness.
Antacid Neautralizes acid in the stomach
Antiarrhythmic Controls cardiac arrhythmias by altering nerve impulses within the heart.
Anticoagulant Prevents or delays blood clotting. AKA Blood Thinners
Antidepressant Prevents or relieves symptoms of depression, also works in the prevention of migranes.
Antidiarrheal Prevents and relieves diarrhea
Antiemtic Controls nausea and vomiting. It acts on the vomiting center of the brain.
Antihelminthic Kills parasitic worms
Antihypertensive Prevents and controls high blood pressure
Antineoplastic Kills normal and abnormal cancerous cells by interfering with cell production
Antipyretic Reduces fever
Antitussive Controls or relieves coughing
Bronchodilator Dilates or opens the bronchi to improve breathing
Cathartic Causes bowel movements to occur
Decongestant Reduces nasal congestion and swelling
Emetic Induces vomiting
Expectorant Assists in the removal of secretion from the bronchopulmonary membranes
Hypnotic Produces sleep or hypnosis
Laxative Promotes normal bowel function
Muscle Relaxant Relaxation of skeletal muscles
Narcotic Produces sleep or stupor. Depresses the CNS, brings sleep or to relieve pain.
Psychedelic Produces visual hallucinations
Stimulant Speeds up the heart and respiratory system. Increases alertness.
Vaccine Promotes resistance to infectious diseases. AKA Immunizations
Vasopressor Produces the contraction of muscles in the capillaries and arteries. Elevates Blood Pressure.
