writing 10 core concepts

TermDefinition
paraphrase A restatement of a text, passage,or work giving the meaning in another form
Summary is a condensed version of a source text that conveys only a main ideas or information from that text in the writers own words. Writers summarize when they need to convey.
Discussion a section in which the results, or findings, re explained
Results an explanation of what the authors learned by conduction the study; sometimes called findings
Review of the litetature a discussion of scholarly texts that ore relevant to the author's specific topic; this selection places the author's contribution in the context of what other the subjectscholars have written about
Statment of the problem an introductory section that identifies the specific problem or question the author addresses in the article
Method a description of the procedure the author used to conduct the study. Usually describes the place, participants,the kinds of data collected and analized
Bibliography the list of text that the author has cited
Abstract A summary of the article that appears after the title and byline but before the main text
Skimming trying to get a scene of the big picture
