| Ivan Pavlov | Nobel Prize winning Russian physiologist, pioneered research on learning through discovery. Gained knowledge through his digestive work w/ dogs to develop theory of classical conditioning & contributed to behaviorist theory. |
| J.B. Watson | A behavioral pioneer who worked with white lab rats and a baby named Albert. He was president of the APA and later when into marketing and advertising after his academic ethics were questioned. |
| B.F. Skinner | Developed the model of learning operant conditioning, where a choice is made by the consequence of the behavior. |
| Charles Darwin | An English naturalist and scientist who advanced the idea of evolution through natural selection. He wrote The Descent of Man. |
| Sigmund Freud | Austrian neurologist who developed the theory of psychoanalysis. Focused on the unconscious dynamics and interplay between the ego, the id, and the superego. Dream analysis, defense mechanisms, and psychosexual stages. |
| Jean Piaget | A Swiss psychologist who developed a theory of cognitive development in children. |
| Wilhelm Wundt | A German academic who founded “psychology” as a formal science in 1879 and opened the 1st lab for psychological study |
| Carol Rogers | American psychologist and founder of humanistic psychology. He focused on a person-centered approach to therapy and unconditional positive regard. |
| William James | A philosopher-psychologist who founded “psychology” in the USA. Established functionalism, i.e. how mental and behavioral processes function. He wrote the 1st textbook Principles of Psychology |
| Biopsychsocial | An integrated approach to understanding our behavior and mental processing that incorporates the dynamics of socio-cultural factors, as well biological and psychological influences. |
