Antipyretics an agent that reduces fever
Arthrocentesis aspiration of fluid from a joint using a needle
Arthrodesis the stiffening of a joint by operative means
Arthroplasty an operation to restore, as far as possible, the integrity & functional power of a joint
Bone Graft a free (unattached) bone for transplant
Brace an orthosis or orthopedic appliance that supports or holds in correct position any movealbe part of the body & that allows motion of the part
Bunionectomy surgical removal of a bunion
Cast a rigid encasement of a body part, as with plaster, fiberglass, or plastic to immobilize
corticosteroid a steroid produced by the adrenal cortex; a corticoid containing a steroid
Ganglionectomy excision of a ganglion
Kyphoplasty a baloon is used to inflate the area of fracture before a cement-like substance is injected. used in the Tx of fracture vertebra due to osteoporosis
Myoplasty surgical repair of a muscle
Nonsteroidal Antiinflammatory Drug (NSAID) any one of a group of pharmacotherapeutic agents exerting antiimflammatory (& also usually analgesic & antipyretic) actions. eg: aspirin, diclofenac, ibuprofen, naproxen
Open Reduction Internal Fixation reduction by manipulation of bone, after incision in skin & muscle over the site of the fracture & stabilization of fractured bony parts by direct fixation to one another w/surgical wires, screws, pins, rods, plates,or methylmethacrylate
Osteoplasty bone grafting, reparative or plastic surgery of the bones
Osteotomy cutting a bone, usually by means of a saw or chisel
Physical Therapy Tx to rehabilitate pt disabled by injury w/different modalities such as exercise, hydrotherapy, diathermy, & ultrasound
Prosthesis fabricated substitue for a diseased or missing part of the body
Splint an appliance used to prevent movement of a joint or to fixate displaced or moveable parts
Spondylosyndesis a surgical procedure to accomplish bony fusion between two or more vertebrae
Tenorrhaphy suture of the divided ends of a tendon
Tenotomy surgical division of a tendon for relief of a deformity caused by congential or acquired shortening of a muscle, as in clubfoot
Traction a pulling or dragging force exerted on a limb in a distal direction for fracture alignment
