Review of Matter

TermDefinition
MASS the amount of matter in an object and stays the same no matter where you are
MASS measured with a triple beam balance
DENSITY how compact an object is; how tightly packed its molecules are
DENSITY measured by dividing the mass by the volume (d = m/v)
WEIGHT is a FORCE that is affected by gravity and changes depending on where you are
WEIGHT measured with a scale
VOLUME the amount of space that something takes up
VOLUME multiply the length by the width by the height OR find the difference in the height of water in a beaker
TEMPERATURE measure of how fast the atoms and molecules of a substance are moving creating heat or cold
TEMPERATURE measured with a thermometer in Fahrenheit, Celsius, or Kelvin
