Writing
| Term | Definition |

| Expository Writing | The purpose is to explain and inform the reader about our thinking or beliefs. |
| thesis statement | The central idea of your essay. |
| conclusion | Restates your thesis and reasons and sometimes adds a spin. |
| topic sentence | The first sentence of a new paragraph that states your reason for that paragraph. |
| transitions | Help your paper flow or move to the next idea. |
| supporting evidence | The facts, opinions, or short stories that support or prove the topic sentence in each paragraph. |
| Narrative Writing | The purpose is to entertain a reader with a story. |
| fact | Something you can prove |
| opinion | Your personal belief about something |
| paragraph | A section of a piece of writing, usually dealing with a single theme |
