Elements of Fiction

TermDefinition
Plot the events that happen in a story
Theme the message of a story; it is often a life lesson
Protagonist the good character (think of Luke in Star Wars)
Antagonist the character in conflict with the good character; think of Darth Vader
Characters the people or animals in a story
Climax the most important part of the story; everything leads up to this point
Why is fiction important it teaches us about life
Resolution the ending of a story; it's where all the loose ends are tied up
Exposition gives background information; comes at the beginning of the story
