Acceleration & Momentum
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Air resistance | frictional force air exerts on a moving object |
| Artificial satellite | man-made device that orbits the Earth used for communication, science, weather, military and location monitoring |
| Centripetal acceleration | acceleration toward center of a circle by an object moving along a circular path |
| Centripetal force | force that causes an object moving along a circular path to move toward the center of the path |
| Law of conservation of Momentum | total momentum of a group of objects is conserved unless a net force acts upon those objects |
| Momentum | a property of any moving object |
| Momentum | (p) =mass times velocity; p=mv |
| Newton’s Second Law of Motion | describes acceleration of an object in the direction of the net force applied to it |
| Newton’s Second Law of Motion | Force (F)=mass (m) x acceleration (a); F=ma |
| Newton’s Third Law of Motion | action/reaction |
| Newton’s Third Law of Motion | for every action force, there is an equal and opposite reaction force |
| Projectile | any object shot or thrown through the air |
| Terminal velocity | greatest velocity reached by a falling object |
