Evaporate Turn from liquid into gas vapor
Filter A device that when you pass a liquid, gas , or solid through it, it removes unwanted material.
Mixture A substance made by mixing other substances together
Particle A small portion of matter
Physical properties Properties can be observed or measured without changing the composition of matter. They include: appearance, texture, color, odor, melting point, boiling point, density
Separate To divide into distinct elements or parts
Solid Firm and stable shape; not a liquid or gas. Particles are backed closely together. Takes on definite shape and vloume
Solution A liquid mixture in which the small particles are uniformly spread out in the the major substance it is put into
Substance A kind of matter with uniform properties
Precipitant A substance that forms as a solid while in a solution
Chemical properties A property of a substance that is observed during a reaction in which the chemical composition of the substance is totally changed into a new substance. Flammability, color , density, hardness, corrosion, are all chemical proberties
Decant To gradually pour off the top layer of a liquid
Suspension A Substance that has particles that are mixed in it but the particles are not dissolved in the fluid or solid
Macroscopic The big , overall view. What we see with our naked eye
Microscopic Very small objects that can only be seen with special instruments
