Nervous System the body's electrochemical communication circuitry
Complexity nerve cells in the brain that allow you to do many things at once
Integration the brain pulls information together
Adaptability adapt to new conditions
Plasticity the brains special capacity for change
Afferent Neurons nerves that carry information about the external environments to the brain and spinal cord via sensory receptors
Efferent Neurons nerves that tell our muscles what to do as we move
Neural networks nerves that integrate sensory input and motor output
Central Nervous System the brain and spinal cord
Peripheral Nervous System nerves that connect the brain and spinal cord to other parts of the body
Somatic Nervous System conveys information from the skin and muscles to the CNS. Such as pain.
Autonomic Nervous System takes messages to and from the body's internal organs.
Sympathetic Nervous System part of autonomic, arouses the body to mobilize it for action. Involves stress
Parasympathetic Nervous System part autonomic, calms the body
Stress body's response to stressors
Stressors prepares the body to handle stress
Neurons one of two cells, nerve cells that handle the information processing functions
