TMJ

QuestionAnswer
Temporomandibular joint TMJ frequently used joint in the body, function chewing, swallowing, yawning, talking, and any other activity involving joint movement.
Mandibular Depression opening the mouth
elevation closing the mouth
lateral deviation side to side jaw movement
Protusion or Protraction Moving the jaw forward
Retrusion or Retraction Moving the jaw posteriorly (basically moving the jaw back to anatomical position
Mandible shaped like a horseshoe, articulates with the temporal bone on each side of the cranium.
