Plot Elements Vocab.

TermDefinition
What is the definition of plot? It is the structure of a story. It shows the arrangement of events and actions within a story.
What is the definition of exposition? It is the introduction (beginning) where the setting, characters, and background conflicts are revealed.
What is the definition of a protagonist? It is the main character around whom the action is centered.
What is the definition of an antagonist? It is the person who opposes or fights with the protagonist.
What is the definition of setting? It is the time and place of the story.
What is the definition of the rising action? It is where the conflict is presented. It is where the reader finds out what problem the main character or characters are facing, and it is where the complications arise as the character(s) tries to resolve the conflict.
What is the definition of conflict? It is the dramatic struggle between two forces in a story. Without it, there is no plot.
What are some examples of conflicts that can exist in a story? Man vs. Man Man vs. Fate Man vs. Nature Man vs. Society Man vs. Self
What type of conflict is an internal conflict? Man vs. Self
What is the definition of climax? It is the part with the greatest intensity and the turning point.
What is the definition of falling action? It is the action following the climax which leads to the end.
What is the definition of resolution? It is how the conflict is solved. It is the outcome and ending of the story.
What is the definition of theme? It is the message, moral, or lesson the author conveys through a text.
