Types of Characters and Characterization Quiz on Sept. 14, 2017

QuestionAnswer
What is a major character? Vital to the development and resolution of the conflict, the plot and resolution revolves around the major characters.
What is a minor character? Serve to complement the major characters and help move plot events forward
What is a dynamic character? Changes over time, usually as a result of resolving a conflict or facing a major crisis.
What is a static character? Does not change over time, their personality does not transform
What is a round character? Anyone who has a complex personality, they are often portrayed as a conflicted person.
What is a flat character? Opposite of a round character. They are notable for one kind of trait or characteristic.
What is a protagonist? Often the main character, are faced with a conflict that has to be resolved, commands involvement on the part of empathy.
What is an antagonist? The " Bad Guy" in a story. The antagonist is an obstacle that the protagonist must overcome.
What is characterization? the process by which the author reveals the personality of the characters. two types direct and indirect.
Direct The author tells the reader " the patient boy and quiet girl"
Indirect The author shows the reader " We can have lots of fun at camp this summer, I love being outside!"
Character Feelings Happy, sad, angry, upset, scared, jealous
Character Traits kind, generous, shy, rude, respectful, principled
